Elegan-Tea Salads

Ada's Poppy Seed Dressing

We make all of our dressings at the tearoom with the exception of the peppercorn ranch. Recipe request are made daily of our honey mustard and Caesar dressing as well as the poppy seed, our signature dressing which we hand out gladly. My friend, Ada McGowan, shared this recipe many years ago when poppy seed dressing was not available on the grocery store shelf. We have not found a commercial one to compare. We do suggest making it up one batch at a time and keeping each batch in separate containers.

2 cup oil
1 cup cider vinegar
1 cup sugar
2 teaspoons salt
1 tablespoon dry mustard
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 1/2 tablespoon poppy seed

Mix all ingredients together, The ingredients can be hand whipped but we whip with an electric beater. Whip until well blended. Let rest 10 minutes and beat again. Can be stored for several weeks. Heat if desired. Stir before using.
