Burton House Tea

Patricia's Tearoom is the second tearoom that I have had the pleasure of owning. In the early nineties, I was the proprietress of Patty's Tearoom who shared an older historic home with Bluebird Antiques, owned by friend, Marlene Winstead, and me. Three days before opening that tearoom I found a tea recipe that I thought would be nice for my grand opening. The guest enjoyed it so much that I decided to make it my signature tea. The Burton family built the home in which we were housed, so we called it the Burton House Tea.

Upon opening Patricia's Tearoom, it was decided that the Burton House Tea would again be the featured house tea. I am sure that you and your family will also make it a tea that will be passed down through the generations. Although we never have any left over, it can be refrigerated up to three or four days because it does not turn bitter like regular tea. We also use this tea as a punch when doing socials that require a punch bowl beverage. We usually add sliced lemons and oranges to float. We keep this recipe printed up at all times as a hand out.

1 gallon water
3 family size teabags
2 to 2 1/2 cup sugar
3/4 cup white grape juice
1 envelope of unsweetened lemonade flavored mix

Bring water to boil. Steep tea bags in hot water for 5 minutes. Discard tea bags. Add remaining ingredients. Stir well. Serve chilled.
